With a team roster full of depth and a number of new and
young players, Millbrook took to the ice for their season opener on the road
against league opponent Canterbury. After falling behind 1-0 in the early stages of the
first period, the Mustangs roared back with 4 unanswered goals to take a 4-1
lead midway through the second period. With the penalty boxes full and during
an ensuing 3 on 3 with only a few minutes remaining in the second, Canterbury slid one by senior goaltender Jamie MacMillan to cut
Millbrook’s lead to 4-2. While having the advantage heading into the
final period, Millbrook succumbed to Canterbury’s will to win and gave up 4 unanswered goals of
their own to fall behind 6-4. With a flurry of opportunities in the waning
minutes, Millbrook failed to regain the lead and lost their first league game
6-4. The goal scorers for Millbrook included Evan Haney ’09, Jon
Theriault ’10, and Alex Simard ‘10. Matt Abbott ’09 also
scored and recorded 2 assists for 3 points on the night. Jamie MacMillan
’09 had 35 saves in net for the Mustangs.
