Five Millbrook runners conquer the mud at invitational
Coach Havard
It wasn't pretty at Berkshire School's course on Saturday afternoon, but it was epic!
After this week's deluge, Berkshire blasted out a warning on Saturday morning about the state of their course, including pictures of the overflowed pond and mucky hillsides. Five of the seven invited schools chose to brave the conditions, and Millbrook was among them! By the time the girls race went off at 4 pm, the mud was ankle deep and a cold wind was howling, but Millbrook's giirls team, having seen the boys push in covered with mud, was amped and ready. Suffield dominated the race, beating perrenial powerhouse Williston handily on both the girls' and boys' sides. Millbrook's runners ran well; Lizzy Finch was first in, in 23rd place and pushing hard at the finish. Anna Wilson and Lillie Marcos were in next, finishing 34th and 35th respectively.. It was Wilson's first race of the season and good news for the team to have her back. Marcos finished the second half of the race with one shoe, having ditched the other in the mud. (Thanks to the kind Berkshire student who somehow retrieved it after the race!) Lilla Powers and Mattie Lewis managed to find the deepest water, but they pushed through and finished smiling. Proud of these intrepic runners and looking forward to New Englands next Saturday!
