Notable News for Millbrook Alumni
Following Millbrook alumni through the decades, here are a few recent examples of Millbrook graduates who have recently been in the spotlight in the national press.
Best of Enemies, a new film released at the end of July and currently in theaters, tells the story of Millbrook alumnus William F. Buckley '43and his arch nemesis, Gore Vidal, both of whom were hired by ABC News in 1968 to debate the issues of the presidential race on live television. What resulted are some of the most memorable conservative and liberal arguments ever recorded and some say the beginning of modern television news as we know it. Buckley had been hosting PBS's Firing Line for two years at that point. Firing Line ran through 1999 - it was the longest running public affairs television show in history with a single host.
Directors Robert Gordon and Morgan Neville created this new historical documentary about the Buckley-Vidal debates. Check out the trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzgfQvB2dvA - and then see the movie in a theater near you!
Also on the big screen, Sam Rodd '85 and his family are the new face of the multi-billion dollar Cherokee brand. A talented actor and voice over artist, Sam has been heard in many television and radio campaigns for companies like Toyota, Dell, Axe, McDonald's, Oreo, Duracell, Bausch & Lomb and countless others. He has also hosted programs on ESPN, IFC and Voom, and appeared in numerous films and national network commercials. The next time you hear a promo announcement on a major television network ask yourself, "Is that Sam Rodd?"
Another Millbrook alum is making a splash on big canvases. The work of the very talented Millbrook alum Julia Heffernan '07 is being featured on Comedy Central billboards across the country and throughout the subway system in NYC. Julia created a series of emoji for Comedy Central, and her emoji for the NCAA basketball tournament teams were also featured on the front page of the Washington Post earlier this year.
Julia is one of many successful alumni artists who found inspiration in the Holbrook Arts Center as a student. We're thrilled for her success and look forward to sharing more of her work with you!
