Millbrook 6 at Rye CD 1

Millbrook took its deeper bench down to Rye this afternoon and gradually wore down the home team on its Senior Day.  The Wildcats were fired up after honoring their four seniors, and within five minutes scored the opener when the speedy Elizabeth Wulf got behind a static Millbrook defense and went in alone to fire a perfect shot to the upper corner.  Millbrook had been gradually taking over the run of play, though, and was no surprise when struck back with three goals in five minutes, with Megan Ahern and Olivia Farrell scoring two and one.

Over the last period, while Wulf and captain Kayti Faustini made occasional forays into the Mustangs' end of the ice, it became a shooting gallery at the home end, where the impressive Nicole Grosser made well over forty saves by the time the game ended.

The highlight of the game for the visitors came when captain Kelly Fallon and Louise Steele-Norton set up Marie Gray for the fifth goal.  Role-player Gray swatted a rebound out of the air into the net and the bench erupted as the hard worker became goal scorer.  Celia and Claire Manny, Kat Shockley and Eliza Chapman all had chances to score as well, and it was a great team effort all around.  One more game remains for the Mustangs, who head to Kingswood-Oxford Saturday to try to close out the season on a high note.
