Millbook 3 -- Mid-Fairfield U-14 1

A young and talented Mid-Farifield U-14 team, coached by Matt Stack (M '99), gave Millbrook all it could handle in a closely-fought game that ended only when Caroline McCarthy tapped in an empty-netter after some hard work by Louise Steele-Norton and Kelly Fallon to set it up.  Alexa de la Guardia had previously scored the go-ahead goal on a well-placed top shelf shot with five minutes to play.  The game began well enough for the hosts, as they had the edge in territory and possession, but it took a while before Oliva Farrell opened the scoring, after picking up a loose puck in front and putting one high off the right post.  The Mustangs stayed on top but could not figure out netminder "Bugs" Crocker, who made some big saves.  In the second period, Mid-Fairfield took over the game and got the tying goal From Amie Dickson.  That was all Erin Doerrsam would allow, though, as she made some key saves to help her team ride out the storm and gradually reassert its control over the game.  Meg Ahern and Allanah Roopchand skated very well on Farrell's line, and the defense was more solid in support of the puck than in its previous two games.  It was a very good contest, with the visitors unintimidated by their older opponents, and Millbrook in return not taking its younger opponents lightly.
