Commencement 2007

Commencement 2007 was a perfect celebration of the intellectual and personal growth of our seniors during their time at Millbrook and a recognition of their many, many accomplishments. Truly, the Class of 2007 has so much to be proud of, and while we will certainly miss their presence and their spirit here on campus, we know they are well prepared to join their selected college communities and contribute in many varied and important ways, and we look forward to hearing about their future successes.

With the sun shining and a perfect, warm breeze blowing, our 70 graduates attended their senior breakfast at Pulling House where they received their traditional gifts from the Office of Alumni & Development - a Millbrook Tiffany pendant for the girls and the Millbrook Ben Silver graduation tie for the boys.

The senior class, followed by the Millbrook faculty, entered the graduation tent to the applause of hundreds of family members and friends. The Revered Doctor Douglas J. Fisher and the Reverend Elizabeth B. Fisher (Parents '05, '07, '11), respectively, gave the invocation and benediction while Board Chairman William B. McNamara '75 provided a warm welcome to the graduates and entire audience.

This year's commencement address was given by Edward P. Flanigan, Founder and President of EcoMotion, Inc.. grandson of founding headmaster Edward Pulling, and parent of graduate Skye Flanigan '07 and former graduate Sierra Flanigan '05. Mr. Flanigan was extremely complimentary of the many efforts of all Millbrook students in supporting our core value of environmental stewardship and stressed the importance of every individual and group's effort in continuing to make a difference. His encouragment was supported with facts and statistics from around the country and around the world - the small, and not-so-small, responsible energy and environmental actions that are promoting positive change.

Julia Quinn Heffernan was nominated by her fellow classmates to give the Sixth Form Commencement Address, and her light, but very heartfelt, speech was delivered with the perfect balance of humor and sincerity and received by the audience with a standing ovation. Following Julia's address, Headmaster Drew Casertano was pleased to present three very special awards:
Sportsmanship Cup - Marcello Dubaz
Community Service Cup - Joshua Rutberg
Summa Cum Laude - Sarah Bogdanovitch

Following the presentation of diplomas, Headmaster Drew Casertano gave his final farewell to the seniors before everyone gathered under the tents on the main circle for a graduation luncheon, personal celebrations, cheerful reminiscences, and a few tearful goodbyes.

Congratulations, once again, to the Class of 2007. From everyone at Millbrook, we wish you safe journeys, endless possibilities, clear vision, inspired direction, and resilient determination to achieve whatever you put your mind to.
