The Millbrook Varsity Softball team fell, 10-0, to a talented Cheshire team on Wednesday afternoon. Cheshire, the defending class B champions, combined good hitting and solid defense (and managed to hit the ball exactly where Millbrook’s defense wasn’t). After a 10-day layoff from games due to weather cancellations, Millbrook wasn’t able to string together enough hits in a row to mount a comeback. Several Mustangs had good days at the plate, though, especially Helene Apollon ‘19, who went 2-for-3 (including a double to the fence). Emma Gotthelf ’19 added a pair of singles, and Jessie Foote ’18 and Riley Croghan ’18 had hits as well. On defense, several Mustangs stepped up to play new positions, including Foote, who played well behind the plate. Croghan displayed masterful control from the pitcher’s circle – she didn’t throw a single ball until the fourth inning and issued only one walk on the afternoon. It was good for Millbrook to get a game in, and the Mustangs look forward to playing Forman (the opponent in last year’s league semi-final win) on Friday. Huge thanks to the Gotthelf family for hosting the team for an absolutely delicious dinner after the game!
