Doubles dominate as Millbrook eeks out 4-3 win vs. St Luke's

Coach Powers
It felt like spring today on the courts with a warm breeze and abundant sunshine.  The singles were played outside and went St. Luke's way.  Only Sophia Hartman '16 won at #2.  She used her big groundstrokes and all-court game to come away with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.  Heidi Reiss '16 won the first set in convincing fashion, but her opponent turned the tables on her and won the final two sets.  Captain Eleanor Sednaoui '13 couldn't win the big points and fell in two sets at the #3 position.  #1 Isabel Seaborn '16 met a super-consistent opponent with big topspin and fell in straight sets.  Thus it was up to the doubles teams, and they did not disappoint.  #1 Alix Creel '14 and Iona Moir '15, and # 3 Storey Schifter '13 and Sayre Reimer '13 bested their opponents in straight sets.  It all came down to an exciting three set match that saw some great doubles points with reflex volleys and great gets.  #2 Julia May '14 and Julia Freund '16 lost their first set of the year, but won the third and deciding set 6-1.  Much credit goes to their opponents who saved numerous match points and played hard until the end.

It looks like we may be in for a spate of decent weather leading up the Parents Day match at home against Greenwich Academy.  See you at the courts!
