Midnight Run is Exercise in Giving
In a great effort sponsored by Millbrook's outreach group, eleven students and three faculty members gathered donated clothing items, toiletries, and food and headed down to New York City for a January Midnight Run.
In a great effort sponsored by Millbrook's Outreach group, eleven students and three faculty members gathered donated clothing items, toiletries, and food and headed down to New York City for a January Midnight Run.
Organized originally by a homeless man, the Midnight Run in NYC has become a regular occurrence and an event in which Millbrook has participated 2 to 3 times per year for the past six years. Volunteer groups are assigned a few different stops within the city where they can unload and distribute those items needed most by the homeless.
On Saturday, January 6th, our volunteers left Millbrook at 8:00, arriving at their first location in midtown Manhattan by 10:30. They visited a total of three assigned stops and distributed items to 75-100 homeless people. Students helped gather and prepare everything that was brought down - coffee, soup, a variety of sandwiches, cookies, fruit, water, clothing, outerwear, and toiletries.
Participating students included: Anna Corey, Allie Ehrenreich, Geoff Fisher, Jay Lebron, Emily Metz, Ivonne Morales, Maren Rhodin, Leisy Ruddock, Romy Solomon, Lauren Van Camp, and Arielle Watlington. The students were accompanied by Mrs. Barbara Gatski, Mrs. Robin Butts, and Mr. Walter Manny. Chris and Sarah, Aramark employees, were kind enough to make and donate bread and organize all of the food items that were brought down.
The participating students and faculty members would like to thank all of the Millbrook parents whose contributions helped make this successful midnight run possible.
