Millbrook vs. CT Stars
Millbrook opened the season with a good effort, but as might be expected the team was somewhat scattered and paid the price against a younger but more experienced Connecticut Stars club team and lost 4-3. Twice Millbrook took the lead on goals from Olivia Farrell but the Stars bounced back each time and then took advantage of defensive breakdowns to take a 4-2 lead in the third and seemingly put the game away. Millbrook would not give up, however, and Louise Steele-Norton's goal with five minutes to go made for an exciting finish in which Millbrook bombarded the net but could not get the tying goal past the Stars' excellent netminder. Kelly Fallon's superb rush with 90 seconds left almost did the trick but she was knocked out of the game in a collision with the goalpost. Kristen Zublin, who took Fallon's place, came close on the doorstep twice but could not make good contact. Mary Rose Morrison rushed the puck well, earning an assist, and Erin Doerrsam was rock-solid in the first period when her team was at its most disorganized. Ema Waldshmidt had a great game in her Millbrook debut, and everyone on the team was able to contribute at key times. It was an entertaining game for the many fans who attended, and there was much to admire in both teams.
