The Millbrook Mustangs hosted Cheshire Academy for our home season opener on a sunny Wednesday afternoon.
The Cheshire bats came out strong, and they were able to plate runners in the first three innings. The Millbrook defense kept Cheshire at bay in the fourth inning before Cheshire added to their lead in the fifth.
Millbrook had better contact at the plate than in our past few games, racking up eight hits on the day and having solid contact right at some Cheshire players. The Mustangs were able to pull together a nice rally in the bottom of the third inning. Jazmin Mejia ‘25 started the inning with a double off the fence before scoring on an RBI hit from Jaicee Downs ‘26. Abby Roberson ‘26 and Haley Malmgren ‘25 followed with hits of their own, with Downs and Roberson scoring to plate 3 total runs for the Mustangs.
The Millbrook defense had some good plays today. Mejia tracked down a distant foul ball for a great out at shortstop in the first inning and then got dirty from the mound to field the position solidly in the latter half of the game. Arhi Fernandes ‘25 and Hailey Mesard ‘25 had some great catches in the outfield to shut down the Cheshire momentum. Stella Renzi ‘26 had a great heads-up play at third to tag out the Cheshire runner on their lead. And Abby Hylan ‘25 had some key stops behind the plate.
The Mustangs look forward to hosting Miss Hall’s this upcoming Saturday.
