Millbrook played some mid-season soccer to begin the year against a game but banged-up IMS varsity team, keeping the ball on the ground and passing with enough precision to maintain the lion’s share of possession throughout and allow the hosts the occasional counterattack. For all the possession, though, Millbrook was unable to convert in the first half as the IMS defense, led by centerback Jon Vantine, kept most of the shots to the outside. Gartner Menges changed all that early in the second half when he calmly side-footed a shot to the far post from the 18. A worn-down IMS team could not keep up with the now-energized visitors and goals from Minsu Kim, John Goodell and Nick Nam followed in quick succession, the latter goal a spectacular scissored volley straight from a corner. It was a great team effort with good performances from Millbrook players all over the park.
