Its always difficult to travel to the Frederick Gunn school, as they have Clay courts which today were especially slow due to the rain. While we had a slow start and found ourselves tied or behind in four matches with the match score tied at 1–1, we generally had a fast finish. Maggie played some long and grueling points but ended up on the winning end, finishing first 8–0. Clay and slice got to Ireland, whose opponent mixed up her shots well and kept her off balance. Catherine was in a dog fight, then pulled away, winning the final three games and the match 8–4. Ella Romick played number four singles today and after early jitters settled down to play some great tennis featuring a great first serve, powerful groundstrokes, and a varied game to secure the 8–4 win. Finley also played singles, jumped out ahead 4–1, and never looked back, showing the big game she is capable of. Vivian and Estee jumped to a lead and continued their aggressive play to secure the 8–2 win. Emelia and Lucy were down 3–4 but got fully warmed up and played some truly fun and creative doubles to win five straight games and the match. Lily and Bea also found themselves behind 3–5 and also found their best game when we needed it the most, winning the next five games and the match. It was nice to see our players' best games before we head to New Englands on Saturday.
