Millbrook continues winning ways

Coach Powers
Congratulations to the girls for making New Englands in its inaugural season!  Right after getting the news, this coach took a wrong turn and we ended up a bit late - maybe cell technology isnt such a great thing?! - but we arrived at Canterbury ready to play.  While Captain Eleanor Sednaoui '13 was a late scratch, the girls filled in well and earned the sweep.

All matches got started at the same time.  #1 Isabel Seaborn '16 and #2 Sophia Hartman '16 were patient and hit some big shots en route to straight set victories.  Filling in at #4 was Alix Creel '14 who played some very smart and consistent tennis to earn the 2-0 victory.  At #3 Heidi Reiss faced the same opponent she had lost to earlier in the year.  She played her best tennis of the year, hitting great angles, deep shots and getting to net to finish off points.  She earned a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Joining forces again at #3 doubles were Storey Schifter '13 and Skye Moir '13.  Skye filled in and did an admirable job with the introductions, and the pair cruised to an easy win 6-1, 6-0.  #2 Julia May and Julia Freund were tested in the second set but prevailed 6-2, 6-4.  The comeback of the day was at #1 where Sayre Reimer '13 and Iona Moir '15 teamed up again.  Last time they played Canterbury they were at the #4 position!  It took them a little while to get going as they dropped the first set 6-1, but then rebounded with a decisive 6-1 victory in the 2nd set.  They made solid mid-match adjustments and executed the game plan very well.  This led to a super tie-breaker, which was a back and forth affair.  They won 11-9!

Again, major congratulations to the girls for a great season so far and for our invitation to New Englands.  We have one regular season match left at Gunnery on Wednesday.  I will communicate all relevant information about this weekend as soon as I get it all confirmed.
