Zooies of the Week - The Zoo Curators

The Zooies of the Week for the week ending September 24th are the group of dedicated zoo curators who began the school year with outstanding leadership and optimism.

These seven students are Sam Richards, head curator, Hope Nicyper-Meryman, Dan Hack, Alex Selz, Ji Yoon Lee, Danielle Carolei, and Jamie Buckley.

As head curator, Sam Richards's responsiblities include supervising the care of every animal in the zoo, delegating jobs to other curators and zoo squad members, and learning all of the zoo practices to properly attend to the animals. His favorite part of the job is "interacting with the animals," and he feels lucky to have the opportunity because he doesn't know anyone "outside the Millbrook community who takes care of and interacts with endangered spieces on a daily basis."

An animal lover, Hope Nicyper-Meryman wanted to be a curator, so she could test herself. She also feels that "this responsibility will teach me what to expect when working with people in a real world experience." She cites learning the different animals' personalities as her favorite part of the job.

Alex Selz wanted to be a zoo curator, so he could be in charge of the zooies and help them learn the ways of the Trevor Zoo. He finds the work extremely interesting and is most excited about having the bobcat in his section of the zoo.

Ji Yoon Lee has been involved with the zoo for the past two years as a zooie. She sees the role of zoo curator as a "bridge that connects the zoo staff to the zooies." Her goal is to make the zoo, her favorite place on campus, a better place. Ji Yoon's favorite part of the job is seeing her fellow zoo curators and zooies working hard and caring for their animals.

Danielle Carolei takes her role as zoo curator very seriously; she understands that being in charge of all of the animals in the zoo is a great responsibility, and she hopes to inspire that same sentiment in others. Danielle mentions the best part of working at the zoo "is that you can interact with many animals on a daily basis instead of just the ones you are assigned."

This fantastic group of zoo curators has set the bar high for the future Zooies of the Week. Thanks for all of the hard work and dedication you put in to make the Trevor Zoo a wonderful place to visit.
