Millbrook at St. George's

Walter Manny

For the third straight game, Millbrook entered the third period tied against a team that had been outplaying it in every position but one.  Goalie Erin Doerrsam once again “stood on her head” and continued to add credence to her nickname: “Door-Slam”.  St. George’s had kept its sheet clean at the other end with a swarming defense that held Millbrook to a startling five shots on net over the first two periods.  Late in the first, Louise Steele-Norton made a slick move to separate herself from a defender and go in alone in front, only to have the puck jump on end and hook wide as she was shooting at the open left side of the net.  St. George’s continued to apply the pressure and finally got the breakthrough with ten minutes to play when Maddie Carrellas tapped a rebound just over Doerrsam’s outstretched pad for the winner.  Millbrook shortened up the bench and pressed for the equalizer which almost came when Claire Bould intercepted a pass in front of the Dragons’ net and shot inches wide.  A defensive miscue at the other end moments later resulted in the back-breaking second goal, and St. George’s easily rode out the last five minutes to win the game and the tournament.
