The Millbrook Mustangs hosted Ethel Walker on a beautiful, sunny Wednesday afternoon—our first game in true softball weather!
After spotting Walker three runs in the top of the first inning, the Mustangs immediately responded by scoring four of their own runs in the bottom of the frame. Jazmin Mejia ‘25 worked a walk to get on ahead of Jaicee Downs ‘26’s RBI double. Abby Roberson ‘26 kept the hitting going. Downs scored on a passed ball before Abby Hylan ‘25 had an RBI double to score Roberson. Arhi Fernandes ‘25 had a nice hit to score Hylan.
Millbrook added to its lead in the second inning with hits from Stella Renzi ‘26, an RBI triple from Downs, and an RBI single from Roberson.
Both teams were scoreless in the third inning, despite the Mustangs getting loading the bases with one out.
The fourth inning saw Downs start things off with a hit, followed by a double from Roberson, an RBI groundout from Malmgren to score Downs, a hit from Hylan to score Roberson, and heads-up baserunning from Hylan to score. Going into the fifth inning, Millbrook led, 9–3.
Walker scored a run in the top of the fifth, and Millbrook then responded with three more runs. Renzi worked a walk to get on ahead of a Mejia home run. Downs then took advantage of some defensive miscues to get into scoring position for a Hylan RBI hit.
The sixth inning saw back-to-back doubles from Mejia and Downs to put Millbrook up 13–4.
In the top of the seventh, Walker found some holes and took advantage of some defensive miscues to plate 2 runs. The Millbrook defense stayed mentally strong, though, and played heads up defense to get the needed outs with bases loaded.
The coaches are proud of how the team is playing and the energy people are bringing in games.
We are halfway through our four-game week, and we look to host Miss Hall’s on Friday afternoon and Holy Child on Saturday for Millbrook’s Family Weekend.
