Two New Art Exhibits at Millbrook

Millbrook was excited to open two new art exhibits on campus this week: Terrain, which features works by Ann E. Coulter, and Bhutan, which features photographs by Dan Mead and Sally Eagle.
Millbrook hosted a reception for Coulter on April 2, and the gallery will be open to the public until May 1, 2016.

“Making paintings about landscape allows me to examine and explore the visceral connections to place; addressing not only how the landscape looks, but how it feels, and more specifically, the fascinating power it has to affect us in a certain way, at a particular place and moment in time,” wrote Coulter in her artist statement.

Coulter’s work shows landscapes during all seasons and at different times of day to illustrate the connection between people and their environment. Her paintings are extremely detailed in an effort to capture the subtle qualities found in a particular place. They emphasize the foreground and have little or no horizon, which invites the viewer to focus on the intricacies of the artwork and place it dipicts.

Millbrook is also opening a gallery to display the photography of Dan Mead and Sally Eagle on April 9. Their Bhutan: Land of the Thunder Dragon series shares the history and culture of the country of Bhutan and the Bhutanese people.

“The Bhutanese people are some of the warmest we have ever met. Their traditions are longstanding and their delight in the Buddhist ceremonies is self-evident,” write Dan Mead and Sally Eagle.

The Bhutan: Land of the Thunder Dragon gallery will be open to the public through May 4, 2016.

We are excited to be able to host these galleries and share the perspectives of the artists with our community. If you are not able to travel to campus, you can also enjoy these artworks on our online photo gallery.
