Broadway Choreographer Stephanie Klemons Facilitates Workshop for Millbrook Students
Millbrook was thrilled to welcome Stephanie Klemons to campus yesterday for a two-hour performing arts workshop in preparation for our upcoming musical, In The Heights.
Choreographer and dance captain for Broadway’s newest hit Hamilton and former co-dance captain for the original Broadway production of In The Heights, Stephanie brought years of professional experience to the Chelsea Morrison Theater.
The workshop began as Millbrook students performed for Ms. Klemons, and she provided feedback. Ms. Klemons then shared the story of her professional journey with students and answered their questions.
“I think it’s absolutely important to get feedback from outside our theater, especially from professionals. Having fresh eyes and perspective is helpful to our process. The advice Ms. Klemons shared helped us to push ourselves further. She was down to earth, and we all really enjoyed our time with her,” says Isabella Buccellati ‘16.
Ms. Klemons worked on the original Broadway production of In The Heights, so she was an invaluable resource to the Millbrook cast and crew.
"It is an honor and privilege as a student to have been able to learn from her and to have received feedback on the things that we were doing well and constructive criticism on the things that we could improve upon in a show that she herself performed in," says Alex Stafford '16.
Unique opportunities like this to work with professionals from Broadway help student actors hone their skills, understand their material, and bring authenticity to the production. Thank you, Stephanie Klemons for your time, feedback, and expertise!
Millbrook's performance of In The Heights will run from February 25-27, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. each evening. We hope to see you there!
