The lady Mustangs played with intensity from the opening whistle, as Chapman, who was to play a superb game, shot two rockets right off the bat. Although the shots didn't find the back of the net, they set the tone for the day: the Lady Mustangs' offense was on the move. Millbrook's mid-field and offense connected with precision in the first half. Burdis, Chapman and Whalen sent forward balls time and again which the forward line -- Steele-Norton, Fallon and Fitzpatrick, capitalized on. Millbrook scored first at 19:52 as Burdis dodged two Berkshire players, passed to pouncing Steele-Norton who scored her first of three goals. Berkshire would fast break right back and score off a dribbler in front on goal. Play went end to end, both teams having scoring opportunities. At 8:00 Chapman blasted a shot which was tipped in by Steele-Norton. Anthony, playing at right wing, made a fine play down the alley setting up an almost sure goal that was denied at the last second. Berkshire would sprint back to the other end and score a second dribbler. The half would end 2-2.
Berkshire is a scrappy, fiesty and fit team, one to never take for granted. The Mustangs played an impressive second half, never slackening in their effort as Berkshire pressured hard. The lady Mustangs' 1v1 stickwork skill and tight passing held them in good stead as Berkshire's scrappier style caused a lot of turnovers. Fallon would score again at 24:51, off a flurry in front of goal. Nelson and the defense made several excellent saves, as Berkshire earned 4 dangerous corners in a row, about midway through the second half. The defense, lead by Fracchia and Small, is to be credited for not allowing a single penalty corner shot to find the back of the cage as several Berkshire shots lingered on the goal line. Lavitt and Chapman both had fine goal line saves. Burdis and Fallon would assist Steele-Norton's third goal, to make the score 4-2 with about 11 minutes to play. Chapman would notch the final score off a pretty corner shot.
The entire team is to be commended for playing a hard, focused, intense and competitive game for a full 60 minutes. There was no easing back, no momentum swing. The Mustangs proved their grit, skill and determination today. Well done!
