Millbrook wins thriller in Overtime

In one of the most exciting hockey games in recent Millbrook history, the Mustangs were able to send Salisbury back to Connecticut after an electrifying Sudden Death Overtime win. After a scoreless 1st period, Arthur Anthony ’07 gave Millbrook a 1-0 lead, flipping in a loose puck from in front less than five minutes into the 2nd. Millbrook’s lead was short lived as Salisbury quickly replied with a Power Play goal. Less than five minutes later, Millbrook scored again. Salisbury lifted the puck out of their zone, where Matt Every ’09 passed it to defensive partner Nick Farrell ’08 at the red line. Farrell advanced the puck to Chris Bennett ’08 who dumped it back into Salisbury’s zone. The puck settled in the corner where Carter Jensen ’08 chased it down and threw it in front to Anthony who one-timed the pass into the net to make it 2-1 Millbrook. With the period near its end, Millbrook scored again as Greg Murphy ’07 scooped up the puck at Salisbury’s blue line and scored on the breakaway to put the Mustangs up by two. However, Salisbury received another Power Play and another goal before the 2nd concluded with Millbrook leading 3-2. Early in the third period, Millbrook once again gave Salisbury a Power Play opportunity and once again, Salisbury scored to tie the game 3-3. With less than two minutes to go in the game, it looked like Salisbury would steal the game as the puck trickled into the Millbrook goal. But the net had been moved off its pegs and the goal was disallowed. In Overtime, goalie Jake Schmidlapp ’08 stood on his head, making many clutch saves. With Millbrook controlling the play in Salisbury’s zone, the puck came out to Anthony on the blue line. Anthony threw the puck back into the corner where Jensen found it and passed it back in front. Senior Forrest Mas gave the crowd reason to erupt one final time when he shoveled the puck into the net to seal the victory for Millbrook and cause its bench to empty in celebration.
