Zooies of the Week - Charlotte Meigs ’19 and Jake Lockwood ’20

Charlotte Meigs ’19 and Jake Lockwood ’20 are our Zooies of the Week for their work with our red pandas, Cyril and Berry. Because they are an endangered species, our pandas require additional observations and work by our Zooies, and both Charlotte and Jake have not only risen to the challenge, but also bring a positive attitude with them to the zoo daily.

Jake is a III former from Norfolk, CT, and says he loves observing the animals:

I love working in the zoo because not only do I love animals, but I also enjoy observing animal behavior,” says Jake. “Being able to bond with an endangered animal has been a truly unique experience that I would not have been able to enjoy outside of Millbrook.”

Jake chose Millbrook because of its size, “I also liked how small the classes were, and the academic program overall appealed to me because it is so hands-on and discussion-based,” he says.

Like, Jake, Charlotte has enjoyed bonding with the red pandas:

“Cyril and Berry are incredibly friendly and they have their unique personalities and moods,” she says. Charlotte, who is from Durham, CT, hopes to pursue a career working with endangered animals and says that the zoo was one of the reasons she chose to attend Millbrook School. “I’ve loved animals my whole life, and the Trevor Zoo is what attracted me to visit Millbrook. Once I visited the zoo, I knew this is where I wanted to be,” she says.

Both Charlotte and Jake are also very involved in the community outside of the zoo. Charlotte is passionate about the arts and participated in our recent fall play, Our Town. Jake plays soccer and will be playing squash during the winter athletic season.

Congratulations to both Charlotte and Jake on their teamwork in caring for our red pandas. Well done!
