Mustangs Show Resilience at Cheshire

Mustangs fail to place among top 5 teams, but Kazuki Unayama places 3rd amidst 100+ runners, with other gritty and tough performances.
Beset by a long ride to Cheshire after Saturday morning classes and an early race time that cut into warm-ups, Millbrook's Cross Country boys stayed calm and focused on the race. Kazuki Unayama ran a time of 19:00 flat, with Ben Berg in the 21 spot at 20:07.

The Cheshire course was wet, muddy, and full of treacherous roots, obstacles that failed to claim Sam Iacavazzi, who brushed himself off and ran through a sprained toe to a finish of 22:06. Sam received swift attention from the trainer after the race and is expected to be back on the course in no time. He showed great resilience for his endurance.

It is worth noting that times were greater this year, but not necessarily slower. Cheshire's construction on some tennis courts forced the school to divert the usual course into the woods, likely adding 200-300 meters of running to the traditional 5k race.

Kudos: A big thank you to Chris Wilkins who, despite a recent injury cannot presently run, attended the meet to cheer on his brothers and stayed with the coaches to the very end, emptying water bottles and lugging gear without being asked. Kudos!

This week's lesson: Plan to arrive early, but always be prepared to run. With an early race time, our boys had to stay organized and focused. Kazuki and Ben did a great job keeping their teammates on schedule once our bus arrived.
