The Mustangs won a 6-5 thriller against New England power Kent in front of a packed house on Monday night. The pace of the game was fast and furious, and both teams played at an extremely high level throughout. Millbrook jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first with goals from Kevin Altidor and Brandon Howes. Kent responded with two goals of their own, one on the power play, to start the second period. Evan Marek buried a backhand after a bad giveaway by Kent in their own zone, but Kent countered with a nice two-on-one goal of their own just minutes later. The third period started tied 3-3, but it was clear that it would likely take more than one goal to win the game. Carl D'Amour Belizario started the scoring with a long shot after he made a nice step to steal the puck in the neutral zone. Even after two questionable penalty calls, Millbrook toughed out a two man advantage for Kent for over a minute and a half. Kent evened the game with 4:30 left to play in the third, but it did not take the wind out of the upset sails for Millbrook. Just forty seconds later, Brandon Howes scored to make it 5-4 in favor of the Mustangs, but things were far from over. One minute later, Josh Freitas broke into Kent's zone and threw the puck at the net from an impossible angle, but the puck dribbled in and Millbrook led 6-4 with 2:30 left to play. Kent emptied its net and scored on a three-on-two with forty seconds left. Kent had a couple opportunities to tie it at the end, but Millbrook was able to chip the puck out with 15 seconds to play. The horn sounded and the crowd erupted in celebration of a great win.
