Millbrook lost its home opener 4-2 to Portledge on Monday night. Despite out shooting Portledge 34-28, Millbrook could not overcome an early deficit against the defensively sound opponent. Portledge jumped out early in the first after a bouncingpuck ended up in front for an quick shot the slot. Portledge added another goal from the high slot later in the first, and Millbrook was down 2-0 going into the break. Millbrook was on the power play early in the second period when a blocked shot from the point ended up in an odd man rush that Portledge cashed in to go up 3-0. Millbrook responded quickly with a shorthanded goal when Kevin Altidor threw the puck at the net from near the blue line with the goalie out of position. The third period began with a 3-1 score and Millbrook applying heavy pressure. However, Portledge added to their lead with a shorthanded goal on an end-to-end rush. Brandon Howes countered to make it a two goal game late in the third on a nice rush of his own. Portledge was very disciplined in the defensive end and squashed the comeback attempt from there. Millbrook will play its second home game on Wednesday versus South Kent.
