Millbrook prevails Parents Weekend

Coach Burdis
Millbrook defeated a good Westover team 3-0 on a cold and windy day in Siberia.  We were very lucky snow didn't fall, it was that cold, and the rain that was called for in the forecast, never came. Westover's team is skilled but young;  they put up more offense than the score indicates, but they were simply out-muscled by a stronger, more mature team.  Westover kept the game's pace moving as they excelled in quick free hits and crisp stick to stick passes. Millbrook would score its first goal at 23:34 as Chapman crossed the ball from the left and Fallon would pounce and score. Assist to Chapman. Millbrook earned its first of three corners at 13:16 and although Burdis got off a good shot, we were not able to score on the rebound. Chapman played a very solid game at center back and special kudos to the defensive team of Lavitt and Fracchia as they worked seamlessly to squelch all of Westover's offensive pushes mid-field. We had to play Small, with a sprained ankle, deep to minimize her movement, and her cohorts picked up the slack and then some. Lavitt and Fracchia played their best games of the season, and looked like they were really enjoying themselves as well. Even injured, Small contributed as her 16 yard hits out of the circle continued to get through, time after time, a huge help to our offense. We ended the half with two well executed corners; Burdis would get off two good shots but we were unable to put the ball away. The half would end 1-0 Millbrook.

The Mustangs played with more determination second half as Steele-Norton would fast break several times and we earned five penalty corners, but Westover averted disaster as we pressed but couldn't score.  Finally, at 19:35, Steele-Norton scored on a cross from Fallon, a gorgeous high, hard shot from about 7 yds out from left post, a real zinger that sounded great when it hit the back board. Fallon with the assist.  We would score again in two minutes as Burdis set up Steele-Norton who would score again from just about the same spot as her first goal.  Burdis with the assist.  At 3:54 Chapman would shoot a zinger off a corner (injection from Steele-Norton to Burdis, who passed to Chapman who stepped into the shot, a coach's dream, except it was two inches wide of the net. The Westover goalie was no where near it. Would have been a great finish!  But we're happy with our 3-0 win in front of our enthusiastic parents.
