Zooie of the Week - Clara Schottenhamel ‘19

Clara Schottenhamel ‘19 is our Zooie of the Week for her outstanding work in our aviary. Some of the many birds she cares for include our great horned owls, Cooper’s hawk, red-shouldered hawk, and the barred owls. The hawks are fed in the morning and the owls are fed at night, and Clara has been consistently dependable with both feedings and cleanings.

“I like working with the owls because I’ve been able to build a relationship with them. When I first started working with the owls, they seemed wary when I would come into their enclosures, but now they get excited to see me,” says Clara. She also says that she likes working at the zoo because, “it’s awesome to be responsible for a living animal. It is very rewarding.”

Clara learned about Millbrook when she tagged along on a tour of the school with her older brother:

“Even though it wasn’t my tour, I left feeling like I was a part of the community. I knew then that I wanted to come here.”

Beyond her enthusiasm as a Zooie, Clara is passionate about dance, and brings the same amount of dedication to our choreography program as she does to the zoo.

Congratulations, Clara!
