Zooies of the Week - Sally Gallop '18, Joshua Gray '20, Kaitlyn Pike '18, & Chris Reed '17

Sally Gallop ’18, Chris Reed ’17, Joshua Gray ’20, and Kaitlyn Pike ’18 are our Zooies of the Week for their exceptional teamwork in helping care for our emus and wallabies in our Australia exhibit. They have done an outstanding job communicating about the behavior of the animals and bring a positive attitude to the zoo each day.

Since Sally, Chris, and Kaitlyn are V and VI formers (Juniors and Seniors), they chose to work at the Trevor Zoo for their community service because they all share a love for animals. “The zoo was one of the million reasons I chose Millbrook,” said Sally. “It’s just awesome here, and I really enjoy caring for the animals as part of a team,” she said.
Kaitlyn, who originally came to Millbrook to play varsity hockey, says that the zoo has surprised her in many ways. “I feel like I have a job that matters,” she says. “It feels good to clean the wallaby and emu barn, feed them, and interact with them. While they are not super social, they are still very kind animals.”

Chris always loved animals, and had experience working on farms prior to coming to Millbrook. He came to Millbrook to play varsity baseball, and was excited to learn that he would have an opportunity to work at the zoo as well. “Working at the zoo is not what I expected at all, but I really like the emus and wallabies, and I’ve learned from this experience,” he said.

As a III former, Josh is required to work in the zoo as part of his community service rotation this year, but says that it has become one of his favorite parts about Millbrook. “At first, I was nervous to work with the animals at first because I do not have a lot of experience with animal care. I actually thought the emus looked vicious at first, which I can laugh about now because they are actually super nice,” said Josh.

We look forward to following these four Zooies as they continue to be models for teamwork at the zoo and beyond. Well done!
