48 Millbrook alumni, faculty, former faculty, and friends gathered at
Fenway Park yesterday evening for a private tour, catered reception, and to enjoy watching the Boston Red Sox play against the Orioles.
“It was really a first-class experience,” says Advancement Officer Kevin Soja about the exclusive tour, private reception area, and premium seats.
The experience was made possible through former Headmaster and alumnus Don Abbott ’59. Abbott’s Godson,
Sam Kennedy, is President of the Boston Red Sox. Mr. Kennedy was generous and kind in not only making the event possible in conjunction with Mr. Abbott, but also in sharing his time to discuss the history of Fenway Park and the Boston Red Sox with Millbrook attendees.
After meeting with Mr. Kennedy and touring the facilities, which included an opportunity to walk on the field, everyone gathered for a catered reception in the Left Field Pavilion. The reception was hosted by Anne Childs, Chip Collins, and their daughter Caroline Collins '10, and was enjoyed by all.
With full stomachs the group headed to their seats to enjoy the game, and were surprised to see a warm welcome on the big screen over the field reading, “Welcome to Millbrook School alumni, friends, and faculty.”
“It was truly a special experience, and it was wonderful to connect with so many of our alumni and friends,” says Director of the Annual Fund and Alumni/Constituent Relations Cindy McWilliams.
Cindy and Kevin were accompanied by many Millbrook faculty, including Cindy’s husband, Rick McWilliams, who will be retiring at the conclusion of the 2015-2016 academic year. He is one of Millbrook’s longest tenured and most admired faculty members and athletic coaches, and has touched many lives throughout his Millbrook career.
Rick was surprised to receive special recognition for his 40 years of service to Millbrook during the game when he saw his name on the big screen over the field reading, “Congratulations Rick McWilliams on your 40 years of teaching and coaching!”
The exclusive experience at Fenway Park, the thoughtful surprise messages on the big screen, and the good company certainly made for a memorable event. The opportunity to connect through this truly unique experience was thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by all who attended.
Thank you to everyone who made this event possible, especially former Headmaster Don Abbott ’59 and his wife Betsy, President of the Boston Red Sox Sam Kennedy, and Anne Childs, Chip Collins, and their daughter, Caroline Collins ’10.
