Andrew Hernandez '87
Chief of Staff, Field Development, Prospecting, and Retention, New York Life

A quick study and a versatile athlete, Andrew grew up in a mostly Spanish-speaking household in the Bronx as the third of five children, following in his brother's footsteps to qualify for a scholarship program through ABC (A Better Chance) program. Andrew applied and was accepted to several boarding schools, ultimately choosing Millbrook because of its close proximity to home. Ironically, he rarely traveled home as his activities at Millbrook - as a three-season athlete, dorm proctor, and prefect - kept him fully involved on campus. After Millbrook Andrew attended Colgate University and landed a job in media planning at TBWA after college. After working as a media planner and buyer for many years, Andrew decided that he wanted to pursue a new career path that would allow for him to be home more often with his growing family. This led to him finding a job with New York Life, where he has worked in field development, prospecting, and recruiting ever since. Andrew makes it all work—time with his family, volunteering, coaching, playing, and building a career—and proves that you can, indeed, have it all.
