Lisette is a Vth former from Amenia, NY. She’s worked in the zoo as a Millbrook student since her freshman year but has also volunteered there since she was in the 6th grade and remembers visiting the zoo as a child. Here are her insights about her zoo curator experience:

“My favorite animal at the zoo is Stanley the lynx. He is so cute, and seeing him relax on top of his perch is so cute. He was also one of the first animals I got to work with during my freshman year, and those memories are important to me.”

“My favorite experience at the zoo was last spring, when I got to work with a group of only students. Building relationships and learning to care for the animals on our own really amplified both my connection to my fellow zooies and to the animals. The experience gave us a chance to take a lead, test out what we knew about these animals, and showcased our collective strengths.”

“I've learned a lot about caring for animals, definitely, but also about caring for other people as well. Interacting with all sorts of zooies and seeing how to adapt to their needs, as well as the animals needs, has been eye-opening.”

“Connect with your zooies. It makes the whole experience so much better, and it automatically makes them more interested in the zoo.”
