Kayla is a VIth former who came to Millbrook from California. She started working in the zoo as a zooie last year and is now a student curator. Here are her thoughts on working at the zoo:

1. What's your favorite animal at the zoo?

"I absolutely love our coati, Ash. He's so playful and really social. He loves people and food, and he's only about one year old, so he has a lot of energy and every time I see him it just makes my day. He is so gentle and curious."

2. What's been your favorite experience at the zoo?

"My favorite experience is working with our vet on Thursdays. Even if it's just a check up day, shadowing her is super fun, especially for someone looking into veterinary medicine as a career. She makes it enjoyable and a place to really learn."

3. What have you learned from working at the zoo?

"I learned about all that goes into the operations and how much responsibility each contributor holds, but also how much fun it is to be able to take care of these animals and learn all of their different personalities."

4. What advice do you have for future zoo curators?

"Make sure wherever you're stationed you understand your animals' personalities and boundaries; it's super important to be able to anticipate their actions to keep you, your zooies, and the animals safe in their spaces."
