Before arriving at Millbrook, Miles ’95 lived overseas with his family in East Africa and the Caribbean, where his parents worked for the U.S. Department of State. With boarding school placing him thousands of miles from home, he chose Millbrook for its small size and strong sense of family.

After college, Miles pursued custom homebuilding in New England and the Pacific Northwest before returning to the international work he had long envisioned. In 2010, he joined the U.S. Peace Corps and spent two years in Belize working in secondary education and public health. He later earned a Master of Public Health from Boston University, focusing on disaster response and complex emergencies.

Miles later joined the Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance, with his first deployment taking him to West Africa during the 2014 Ebola outbreak. He has since held humanitarian response leadership roles in crises around the world, including Yemen and Ukraine. Today, he serves in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Humanitarian and Disaster Response.

Miles met his wife, Taylor, in the Peace Corps. They have two children, Parker and Stella.
