Frequently Asked Questions

List of 4 items.

  • What is the Millbrook Fund?

Each year parents, alumni, parents of alumni, and friends are asked to make charitable gifts to the Millbrook Fund. These contributions supplement tuition income and help the school meet its annual operating expenses, which make up about 12% of the operating budget.

This year tuition covers only 75% of the actual cost of a student’s education at Millbrook. As a result, every Millbrook student benefits from gifts to the Annual Fund and receives a hidden financial aid award of about $8,000. This amount is the difference between tuition and the true cost of educating each student.
  • What kinds of expenses does the Millbrook Fund underwrite?

The Millbrook Fund supports the essentials and the extras and provides the margin of excellence we associate with Millbrook’s faculty, program, and plant. Faculty salaries, financial aid, plant maintenance, the community service program, forum speakers, visiting artists and musicians, athletic uniforms, officials and transportation, art materials, and faculty professional development opportunities are just a few of the many programs greatly affected by the Millbrook Fund.
  • Why not raise tuition so that it covers 100% of the operating budget?

Charging the “full” tuition would put a Millbrook education out of the reach of many qualified students. The student body's diversity is an important part of the Millbrook community that the school values and seeks to preserve. To continue providing opportunities for students from many cultural, social, and economic backgrounds, the school must find a fair way to counter rising costs without significantly raising tuition. Voluntary giving to the Millbrook Fund is an equitable way to offset rising educational costs, and, unlike tuition payments, it is tax-deductible.
  • Why should I give to the Millbrook Fund?

First, participating in the Millbrook Fund, to the best of your ability, is one of the most meaningful ways to support Millbrook and the people who make a difference.

Second, the Millbrook Fund ensures quality in all that Millbrook is and does. It sustains the educational experience we, as alumni, parents, and friends of Millbrook, have come to value and respect. Millbrook students deserve the best education that we can provide.

Third, foundations and major donors Millbrook approaches for capital projects place a high premium on alumni and parent participation in the Millbrook Fund. Generous, widespread support signals that “the customers are satisfied” and that the school is worthy of their investment.

Generations of families have supported Millbrook financially and helped shape the school we know today. We hope you will help us carry on that responsibility and ensure a high-quality Millbrook education for our current students and those to come.
If you have any other questions about the Millbrook Fund, please get in touch with the Advancement Office at giving@millbrook.org or 845-677-6752.
