Kevin Soja arrived at Millbrook in 1998 and served as the Assistant Varsity Hockey Coach to Bob Howe for four years.  Granted a leave of absence for the 2002-2003 school year to earn an M.A. in Private School Leadership from Columbia University, he was appointed Head Coach prior to his return to Millbrook in 2003.  Coach Soja was a four year letter winner at Colby College where he played for the well-respected Jim Tortorella, brother of Tampa Bay Lightning Head Coach John Tortorella.  In 1996, he helped lead his team to the NCAA play-offs.  The following year, his team captured the ECAC League Title.  In the spring of 1998, the college presented him with the Norman E. White Award for inspirational leadership and sportsmanship.

The independent boarding school world is certainly not new to Coach Soja.  Before going to Colby College, he spent his junior and senior year at the rival Hotchkiss School, graduating in 1994.  Hotchkiss was one of the prominent prep school hockey teams in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s under Coach Jeff Kosak, highly regarded as one of the finest coaches in New England prep school hockey.  Millbrook had their most successful year under Coach Soja in 2005-2006, finishing 16-14-3 and ranked 7th in Western New England.  If you watch the Millbrook hockey team, you will quickly notice that his players skate well, compete hard and have immense pride for their school.
