Assessment Week

While there may be mixed feelings among some about the return of this rigorous week, a sprint at the end of a marathon, there’s no doubt that assessment week is an important measure of student achievement and progress. Previously known as exam week, the testing period has been on hiatus since Spring 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic prevented students from on-campus learning.

Some subjects are more conducive to traditional exams while others, like creative writing, honors music, and the visual arts call for more of a nuanced overview of what students have gleaned from coursework. This week, musicians composed and performed, creative writers read their work aloud, and visual artists made art demonstrating newly acquired skills. There were plenty of students sitting for more traditional exams in academic subjects. Study halls were well-attended and along with a well-timed blanket of snow, a studious hush fell across campus.
