Mustangs Win Their First Away Game

Millbrook left Friday to travel to Hebron Academy for its first road game Saturday.  The Mustangs faced Hebron for the first time in its modern football history.  Millbrook won 38-8, scoring touchdowns on two passing plays, three rushing plays, and on a kickoff return.
The Mustangs left Friday afternoon for the long road trip to Hebron Academy in Maine, arriving Saturday morning after an overnight stay on the road.  The Hebron Lumberjacks and the Mustangs were deadlocked for over the first 7 minutes of the first period.  Millbrook scored first with 4:36 remaining in the 1st quarter with QB Mac Elliott on a 23-yard touchdown run.  RB Jaylen Thatcher followed up with a 2-point conversion run.  Hebron fumbled on the following possession with LB Nolan Cadieux getting the ball back for Millbrook.  The Mustangs capitalized on the fumble by scoring a 39-yard TD on an Elliott to WR Ashton Colangelo pass with 3:45 remaining in the 1st quarter.  RB Jaylen Thatcher again made a 2-point rushing conversion to bring the score to 16-0.  Hebron again fumbled the ball which was recovered by CB Ashton Colangelo with 2:45 remaining in the 1st quarter. The Mustangs then capitalized again on a 10-yard TD reception by SR Ethan Kessler from QB Elliott with 1:41 remaining in the 1st quarter giving the end of 1st quarter score of 24-0.

The Lumberjacks put 2 points on the scoreboard with a safety on the Mustangs over a disputed intentional grounding penalty against the Mustangs in their own end zone with 7:45 remaining in the 2nd quarter.  DT Jason Weiss recovered a Hebron fumble with 7:31 left in the 2nd quarter. The Lumberjacks scored again on a 50-yard rushing touchdown with 4:25 left in the 2nd quarter without a conversion.  Millbrook scored next on the ensuing kickoff with 4:14 remaining in the 2nd quarter with WR Matt Sardo running the kickoff back 65 yards into the Lumberjack end zone.  The Mustangs successfully made a 2-point conversion with a run by RB Jaylen Thatcher. The 2nd quarter ended with the score of Millbrook 32, Hebron 8.

In the 3rd quarter, RB Jaylen Thatcher scored a 3-yard touchdown run with 9:43 left in the 3rd quarter.  No conversion was made, finalizing the score at the end of the game 38-8, giving Millbrook its first road win and their record of 2-0.  DT Xander Yaccino recovered a Hebron fumble with 1:07 remaining in the game.

The Mustang defense was led by LB Nolan Cadieux, with 11.5 tackles, LB Jaylen Thatcher with 6 tackles, CB Ashton Colangelo with 5 tackles, and FS Matt Sardo with also 5 tackles.  Other Millbrook tacklers were Rocco Boland, Jason Weiss, Mac Elliott, Johnny Rigolino, Thomas Kruijtzer, James Deng, Carl Posse, Givi Fleuristal-Muheto, Gabe Gersten, Xander Yaccino, and Jack Rexhouse.

Millbrook’s offense was led by QB Mac Elliott with 64 yards rushing, WR Ashton Colangelo with 39 yards receiving, and special teams led by Matt Sardo with 95 yards kickoff and punt returns.

The Mustangs are at Callard Field next week against Holderness School, for their 3rd meeting. It will be the first time the teams meet at Millbrook.
