Millbrook Skates Over Canterbury on Senior Day

Sam Tarnasky
We started the afternoon by honoring our graduating players: Eliza Chapman, Emma Hart, Cora MacKenzie, Claire Manny, Meg Ryan, Marianne Thomaris, and Tori Trovato. Thank you for your dedication to this team. Your leadership, commitment and spirit are greatly appreciated!

The game was an exhibition of teamwork and intensity. Millbrook wasted no time, taking the lead only 30 seconds into the first period. An unassisted goal from Marianne Thomaris set the tone. The girls kept up the tempo, battling through a rough, physical 15 minutes. Going into the second period, Millbrook quickly furthered the lead when Megan Ahern scored only 16 seconds into play. She was also unassisted. Canterbury answerd back with a goal only a minute later, but it did not shake the confidence and composure of the Mustangs. The whole team rallied and played good, careful hockey. Holland Harvard and Cate MacKenzie worked hard on the blue lines and boards to protect the puck, while Eliza Chapman, Anna Waldschmidt and Meg Ryan moved the puck with a crisp sense of purpose in the neutral zone. With only 6 minutes remaining in the period, Allanah Roopchand provided a safety net with her unassisted goal. Just 2 minutes later, Melissa Sheeran netted yet another unassisted goal. This left the score at 4-1 with the close of the second period. In the third period, despite spending most of the time in the penalty box, the Mustangs controlled the game, dictating the pace and tempo, and working together as a unit. With just 5 minutes remaining in the game, Sheeran put in the Mustangs 5th goal, assisted by Elizabeth Lowe and Heather Neuberger. Overall, a solid win and an excellent show of sportsmanship and intensity from Millbrook.
