The Mustangs played a clean baseball game on a pleasant Saturday. We met all of our team goals and came away with an 11-2 win in our home opener vs. Cheshire. John McCulla ’10 took the mound and pitched extremely well, taking a no-hitter into the 6th inning (10 K’s) before a scrappy Cheshire team strung together a few hits. Augie Lehrecke finished the game by pitching the 7th. We only allowed 2 free baserunners( 1 BB, 1 ROE) as the defense played well including a nice running catch by Tom Cooney ’11 and a heads up 5-3 double play started by Carl Rasmussen ’12. Offensively, the Mustangs continued their hitting ways, banging out 12 hits; two each from Jason San Antonio ’10 (run), Carl Rasmussen ’12 (triple, rbi, 2 runs, sb), Tim Cooney ‘11(2rbi, 2 runs, 3sb) Grayson Voges ’12 (double, rbi, 2 runs) and catcher Joseph Kreta ’10, who finally got to play a full game today(3 rbi, 1 run). The Mustangs scored in the first 5 innings, grinding out at bats and earning 9 walks to go with the hits. We eagerly await divisional foe and division leading Salisbury on Wednesday at 2:30 pm.
