Boys Defeat Pomfret to Climb Ladder in NEPSHC West
The boys defeated Pomfret on Saturday 5-4 and moved up in the NEPSHC West League. It was a huge win for our coaches, and for us. Having lost to Pomfret earlier in the year 4-1 @ Pomfret, we stepped up at home and got the win, giving us a 1-1 record with Pomfret this year. With only a few games left in the season, all games are crucial, especially #1 Berkshire on Wednesday, who we intend to get revenge after a 6-1 loss earlier.
This game against Pomfret was action packed, and went right down to the wire. After pomfret took a 2-0 lead on us at the end of the first, we came right back at the start of the second and tied it up 2-2 with a PP goal from Brock Swartwood (10'), and then a short handed goal from Senior Captain Kirk Baldo (his 19th of the season). Pomfret scored again and took the lead 3-2 heading into the second. Once again down at the end of the period, we came right back in the third and tied it up on the Powerplay with a goal from Jonathan Theriault (10'), who received a pass in the slot down low by Sean Spero (09'). Towards the end of the third period, the score was 4-4. As soon as it looked like it was heading for OT, Pomfret was given a 2 minute penalty. Without further hesitation, Bryant Doerrsam (08') ripped a shot from the point on the Power Play to give Millbrook the win in regulation.
Millbrook look's to take on Bearcats of Hotchkiss on Monday, a rescheduled game from earlier in the year because the Hotchkiss team had food poisoning. With only two games left in the regular season, the boys are looking to pull out all the stops on two very skilled teams on Monday and Wednesday going into Empire Cup.
