The Mustangs journeyed to Rye
Wednesday for what proved to be a very disappointing game. Despite the long
ride, the boys took the field enthusiastically and energetically. Play in the
first half was all in the Rye end
as Millbrook controlled play at every position. However, Millbrook could not
find the back of the net and the half ended in a scoreless tie. When play
resumed, Rye was a bit more
animated and the contest was much more even. The Millbrook side struggled to
execute our game plan and Rye crept
slowly back into the contest. With less than 15 minutes to play, Brundrett
parried a strong shot and the rebound landed on a Rye
foot. The resulting volley proved to be the only score and the game-winner.
Millbrook pushed hard as time ended but our best effort – a Mauri shot which
slid six inches past the post – was not good enough and a game we felt we
should have won slipped away from us.
