Millbrook ties Rye Country Day in OT

What an exciting, skilled game from start to finish, as the Mustangs took on the impressive, experienced (RCD's team is comprised mostly of seniors) team from Rye Country Day School, on their turf field. After having played our last few games on less than ideal fields, it took the Mustangs about twenty minutes to adjust their game, and this twenty minutes was costly. Less than 10 minutes into the game, RCD scored on a penalty corner. RCD was fast and aggressive; their take no prisoners style of play stymied us at first, as we had some exciting fast breaks and two penalty corners, but couldn't sustain the offense to get on the score board. the score at half was 1-0. We then proceeded to ig a deep hole, allowing RCD to score just five minutes into the second half. But then the Mustangs woke up, got focussed and went to work. We basically outplayed, outshot and out maneuvered RCD for the last 25 minutes of the game. We received 8 penalty corners to their 4; we outshot them 8 to 3.  On our fifth corner, Kane got off a great shot and Scher tipped in the rebound, for her first score of the season. Anthony and Burdis really stepped up their level of play, Burdis' pressuring in the midfield, and Anthony's relentless work in the circle, where she was guarded by one of the best defenders I've seen this year, got the entire team fired up. Zublin netted the second goal with less than 30 seconds left in regulation play.

During OT, the Mustangs out hustled and out shot the sagging RCD team. We hammered them, but just weren't lucky, shots going just wide of the mark. Goalie Morrison made one tremendous save for Millbrook, stopping a ddangerous fast break dead in its tracks. The entire Millbrook team, both offense and defense, played tough, smart hockey to hold off a very good team. A great effort by all.
