Not one of Millbrook's prettier games but the Mustangs prevailed over Hamden Hall 4-0. From the opening whistle, Millbrook was on the offensive. In the first five minutes Millbrook launched two spectatular shots only to be denied by Hamden Hall's best player, their goalie. She made two phenomenal saves back to back to deny almost certain goals. Hamden Hall also clogged the circle with virtually every player on the field so it was hard to get off any shots or maneuver the ball to move the goalie. The Hamden Hall players had more guts than finesse and the game was marred by too many officials' whistles. For fifteen minutes Millbrook remained scoreless when finally, at
The game got progressively uglier as Hamden Hall tried to muscle Millbrook off the ball. But the Mustangs kept their composure (sort of!) and played solid if not brilliant hockey (I always expect brilliance from this group!) Anthony scored to make the score 3-0, assists to Burdis and VonKlencke, who proved yet again, she can run like the wind. The fourth goal came at
In a wonderful flurry at the end of the game, Fresne, Goddard and Scher made several great offensive thrusts, actually scoring one goal which was taken away (not the right call!)
A nice win but Millbrook needs to learn how to play around an unskilled team; how to rise above stick hacks, use artifice, stick feints, and stick skill to out maneuver a less skilled opponent. But overall, a good effort.
