Millbrook ties Gunnery in OT

The girls field hockey team must have felt on Saturday like Gunnery was a guest who refused to go home. In an incredibly even match-up (we exchanged exactly the same number of  penalty corners and shots on goal) the well-played game went end to end for the first  17 minutes, with both teams having serious scoring opportunities, but not able to capitalize. Finally, Millbrook struck first, a lofted shot by Zublin from just inside the circle that was tipped in by a defender. Gunnery roared right back and scored 2 minutes later off a scrum in front of goal. The score was tied 1-1 at half. Ten minutes into the second half, Kane scored off a gorgeous corner hit, a real zinger. Eight minutes later, Gunnery came back yet again to tie it up. Fatique was setting in; heat and tight reffing was also an issue. The game continued end to end, with excellent play on both sides. Fracchia and Small on defense played very strong, repelling Gunnery time and time again. Goalie Morrison snuffed one fast break in an exciting top of the circle stop that sent the Gunnery player flying. With under 8 minutes to play, Gunnery scored what could have been the bone crusher, off a corner hit. But the Mustangs proved how gritty they can be. Zublin scored off a scrum in front of the cage with 3 minutes left in the game to tie it 3-3.

After one grueling 10 minute, 7v7 over time, played heroically by Fracchia, Small, Anthony, Kane, Burdis, Zublin and Morrison (with Chapman, Goddard and Duhoski subbing on the fly) the score remained tied.  The Mustangs left it all on the field in a great contest.
