Francis Bonsu Featured in Sports Illustrated Q&A

Millbrook School soccer sensation Francis Bonsu burst onto the national sports scene this year. In June, he was named the Gatorade New York Boys Soccer Player of the Year, and this week, he sat down with Sports Illustrated reporter Kevin L. Smith for a Q&A.

Francis talked about everything from his transition from Ghana to Millbrook to his decision to attend UCLA this fall. When asked about his love for the game of soccer, Francis offered a bit of insight into the mentality that has made him a star on the pitch:

“I enjoy the feeling of it. You’re not always going to win games, and other teams are going to win, so it all comes down to how you get back up after losing,” he explained to Smith. “It’s about redeeming myself. I’ve really appreciated the people I have come in contact with, including my host family, my coaches and my teammates. Everything I’ve done and everything I’m able to do is because of them. They’re just great people.”
