Millbrook Graduates Class of 2013 in its 82nd Commencement

The Class of 2013 bid Millbrook farewell in traditional fashion - from accepting awards with humility to embracing faculty on their way out.
Commencement festivities began on Sunday evening with the official dedication of the Barn and a dinner for seniors, their parents, and advisors on Pulling Quad. From there, the graduates-to-be were joined by all students under the main tent on the Flagler Quad for Prize Night.

Monday was a family affair as underform classmates, faculty, staff, and–of course–family were on hand to celebrate this milestone with the class of 2013.

Nancy Hathaway, head of school at Dutchess Day School, delivered sage advice during her Commencement Address encouraging the graduating class to work hard. Click here to read Ms. Hathaway's terrific speech within the Special Ink section of our website (coming soon).

The VIth formers, elected classmate Haley Harckham to deliver this year's Sixth Form Commencement Address. This marked a first in Millbrook history as two siblings were both selected by their respective classes to be Commencement speakers. Heath Harckham '11 was chosen by his class to speak at his Commencement in 2011. A familiar face, Haley delivered regular announcements during school assemblies, she was an excellent class speaker. She reflected on her tenure at Millbrook referencing meaningful interactions with faculty, a tremendous opportunity to build a 10' tall iron mustang (whose home is in front of the Holbrook Arts Center), and a number of only-at-Millbrook anecdotes that shaped her experience.

There were three special awards presented during Commencement by Mr. Casertano and they were as follows: The Sportsmanship Cup was awarded to Geneva Wagoner; The Community Service Cup was presented to Marilyn Dedrick and Heather Neuberger; and Ashlyn Kang earned Summa Cum Laude of Millbrook's Class of 2013.

Immediately following the Commencement program, faculty formed what is now called the "cry line" in front of Schoolhouse for the graduates to say goodbye one more time before a luncheon on Pulling Quad and before they officially turn the page on their Millbrook careers and begin the next chapter of their lives.
