Amazing tie vs. Salisbury

In a closely played and hard fought contest Saturday, Millbrook tied Salisbury before the opponent’s Parents Weekend crowd. Conditions at game time were sunny and windy; these and the wet field played a factor in the outcome. The first half was all Salisbury as Millbrook struggled to march against the wind and out of the mire. Brundrett made several big saves and the defensive backs played great containment soccer. Still, Sarum’s Bernlohr struck for a pretty goal with 15 to play in the half and Salisbury seemed in control. When the sides traded ends, the Mustangs seemed to pick up some momentum and confidence. Parent and Derby made excellence use of the flanks and MacTavish, Harvey and Vogis controlled the midfield nicely. Strong play from Mauri and A. Navarro softened up Salisbury’s defense. At the 20 minute mark, Baldo scored the equalizer. From this point on, Millbrook pushed hard in search of a game winner and created several superb chances. Although this did not materialize, the team was pleased with the outcome and looks forward to the contest against Rye this Wednesday.
