Jill Kane
After nearly a week of early arrivals (student leaders, pre-season athletes and international students), all students were finally settled in as of Sunday, September 9 – all 254 of them. And, on Tuesday evening, September 11th, the 2007-2008 academic year was heralded in officially with the traditional Opening Convocation. Headmaster Drew Casertano’s convocation address as well as Eileen Jeffreys’ invocation can be read on the Special, Ink section of this site.
At right are some snapshots commemorating the beginning of school and below is the make-up of the 2007-8 student body:
Millbrook welcomed 83 new students this year from a record-breaking applicant pool for the tenth year in a row. This year the student body is made up of 138 boys and 116 girls: 60 day students and 184 boarders. The boys and girls represent 17 states (Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Vermont) and 7 foreign countries (Canada, Costa Rica, Germany, China, Japan, Korea and The Netherlands).
Anyone not believing that Millbrook is ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY should know the following about the number of student legacies and repeat families Here is how that breaks down: The student body consists of an amazing 20 families who have one or more currently enrolled and one of them even has three! Thirty-two of our students have had a sibling graduate recently and 23 of our students are the daughters or sons of alumni. We are absolutely delighted that our families and graduates continue show their faith in Millbrook by sending us their best.
