2019 Alumni Weekend Highlights

Millbrook welcomed over 170 alumni back to campus for Alumni Weekend on June 7-9.

The classes of 1969 and 1994, celebrating their 50th and 25th reunions respectively, enjoyed dinner, music and dancing, and terrific company during their three days on campus. The class of 1969 also participated in a variety of special 50th reunion class activities including an architectural tour of campus with alumnus Phil Ross '68 and a tour of Wethersfield.

On the morning of June 9th, all other alumni joined us on campus for festivities, which included master classes, tours of the Trevor Zoo and animal feeds, yoga and strength and conditioning classes taught by Dana Lucas P'14 '17 and Patrick Maleolo P'16 respectively, a "sip and paint" activity, and more.

The community gathered in the afternoon for a special unveiling of faculty portraits, which were generously created by Tom Mason P'95 '02 as a gift to the school and a way to recognize and celebrate those faculty members who have worked at Millbrook for 25 years or more. "These portraits acknowledge and honor the talents of these dedicated men and women who, as Mr. Pulling said, are truly the spirit of the institution," said Headmaster Casertano in reference to the artwork. "This is a way to honor people who do not get recognized as much as they should in a way that is enduring."

Following these festivities, the traditional alumni parade led the entire community into the Flagler Memorial Chapel where Bob Anthony '65 presented awards to very deserving recipients:

Edward Pulling Community Service Award: Chris S. Hardy '92
Alumni Achievement Award in Filmmaking: J. Whitney Stillman '69. Alumna Serena Altschul '89, who was unable to attend Alumni Weekend, also received an Alumni Achievement Award this year for her excellence in broadcast journalism, and Mr. Anthony '65 spoke to her achievements and shared a letter from her with everyone in attendance.

Headmaster Drew Casertano delivered the State of the School address to update alumni on the many projects underway and recently completed on campus. "Everything that we do is intended to enhance our ability to fulfill our mission," said Headmaster Casertano who spoke to the school's strong enrollment, high participation in the Annual Fund, and growth of the school's endowment. Visit our Millbrook in Motion page to watch the State of the School address in its entirety.

Director of the Annual Fund Deborah Vanecek also congratulated the 2019 Headmaster's Challenge decade winners. The classes who earned victory within their respective decades for the highest percent participation in the Annual Fund are:
  • 1939, 100%
  • 1947, 60%
  • 1955, 60%
  • 1960, 55%
  • 1976, 51.35%
  • 1986, 55.81%
  • 1997 and 1992, tied with 82.35%
  • 2004, 83.02%
  • 2013, 54.67%
After exiting the Flager Memorial Chapel, alumni enjoyed beautiful weather and reminisced on the Flagler and Pulling Quads before enjoying cocktails, dinner, and dancing in the dining hall that evening.

Thank you to all of our alumni who came back down School Road to reunite!
