Mustangs Fall to Gunnery in OT

The Millbrook Varsity Field Hockey team dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker in OT at Gunnery in the drizzle on Wednesday afternoon. Millbrook got on the board first in the opening half when Tess Toland '17 took a shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner that the Gunnery keeper saved, though Emma Gotthelf '19 collected the rebound and fired it into the cage for the 1-0 lead, which is where the first half ended. The Mustangs improved their lead to 2-0 in the second, when Ellie Muckstadt '18 took the ball down the left wing before crossing it in front of the cage to a waiting Emma Oliva '18, who knocked it home. However, Gunnery turned up the intensity and cut the lead to 2-1, before tying up the game on a corner with just 14 seconds left. In OT, both teams had chances, but Gunnery drew a penalty stroke, and their player placed it perfectly into the corner so that keeper Patricia Smith '17 had no chance to stop it. Smith had made a number of nice saves, though, and was helped by some excellent defensive clears by Tess and Laura Toland '17, Caroline Reilly '17, and Antonia Koslowski '18. The Mustangs will finish out the season at Miss Porter's on Saturday.
